3rd Annual Autism Combine Results

The final results are in! First of all - let me thank everyone who showed up and participated / volunteered or helped out in anyway. Although we had just over half the number of partcipants that we had the previous year, we still managed to raise over $700 towards Autism Speaks. Thanks to everyone who donated. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

It was a very cold and windy day, especially at Anderson field for the field events. It was weird.....during the 40 everyone had the wind at their backs until it was my turn and the wind was right in my face for both runs (hence the 6 flat). In the first time, we had a repeat winner.....Brian Stocker (age 39) won the combine for the 2nd consecutive year, posting in the top 3 in every event. Congratulations to Brian!

We had a couple event records set.

  • Bryan "Grandpa" Davis (age 49), the oldest participant in the history of the event tied the record in the 3 cone drill with a time of 7.53 seconds
  • Tyler Pensyl (age 31) set a new record for the bench press, doing 50 reps!

Tom Duncan (age 39) received the honor of Mr. Irrelevant this year, given to the last place finisher. There were a couple of miscalculations when we presented the results. It was determined later that Natalie Stocker (the wife of the champion) was actually last place, but since she was the only female to participate, we feel that Tom is the deserving Mr. Irrelevant.

To see complete results in each event - please see the link on the right side of the blog.

We will be posting pictures from the event soon.

Special thanks to Steve Hall and Kevin Richards for seving as monitors at Anderson field and to Chris "I'm slow on the trigger when Derrick runs his 40" Jagers for serving as the official time keeper. And thanks to Brian Byrne / Byrne's Pub for donating a keg of Labatt for the cause.....and anyone else I might have forgot.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you at the next Cornhole tournament in August.

Thanks to Everyone for a Successful Event!

Although I've been struggling to pull myself from the couch today, I figured I would post a quick update to thank everyone for their participation / help in the 2nd Annual Combine for Autism. We had a total of 30 participants and raised $940. There was also an additional $80 donated directly online to our team......making a total of $1,020 towards Autism Speaks (compared to $720 last year), which will make our team total almost $4,000 for 2011 thus far, with the c@rnhole tournament still to go. There are several people I want to thank:

- Steve Hall for volunteering his time as the site supervisor at the football field
- John and Amy Pelzer for all their help sith setup / registration, officating
- John Pelzer and Dave Schwartz for compiling event results
- Dustin Gardner & Chris Jagers for timing the events
- Joe Hecker for donating cigars to sell - with all sales going toward autism
- Brian Byrne / Byrne's Pub for donating the beer for the event
- John Evans for providing cones to use for the events
- Kasey Friesner for making appetizers and taking pictures
- Kasey Friesner and Cassie Donovan for administering the Wonderlic Test
- Krista Sparks for donating Muscle milk product for the event
- Chris Donovan for use of his bench / weights for the bench press
- Nick Osbourne / Go Fitness for use of the vertical jump device

I apologize if there is anyone I missed. The event went very smoothly and it's because of all of the help you all provided. Thanks again.

After the smoke cleared, we have a new champion.

1st place - Brian Stocker (38), who placed 3rd in last year's event took home the championship this year.
2nd place - Jason Dray (31) - who was last year's champion
3rd place - Drew Stemen (28), who was last year's runner up.

Joe Hecker (46) took home the Mr. Irrelevant trophy, placing last......although in Joe's defense, he was certainly not going all out for a lot of the speed events. But either way, thanks for being a good sport Hecker.

Thanks again to everyone. I will post detailed results and pictures to the blog later this week.
